It is (true) art to conceal art Ars est celare artem

Medicine as lost art

For centuries medicine was described as ars medica - "the medical art" - emphasising judgment, close observation and patient individuality over rigid dogma.

This site details what happens when that art vanishes - trumped by standardisation, blanket protocols and institutionally mandated guidelines that eclipse the individual.

In true art, the effort is hidden. In this experience - a perfect opportunity to exhibit mastery - all that remains is...

The Little Red Hen - Analogue

Luke - The Sensory Ambassador

I use the Wall Follow Method. Not a Doctor, Not a Scientist, Not a Hypochondriac - but I am itchy. Part innately attuned and off-key, part conditionally harmonic and discordant — a true autodidact and unapologetic steward of nuance. Expertly adept at interpreting deafly silence. Like the Little Red Hen I grew the wheat, harvested it, milled it, baked the cake and iced it. Unlike her, my reward is not the cake but the wisdom gained from the understanding I acquired piecing together the recipe. This is my own nourishment, giving me a renewed chance to celebrate (likely not with cake) and live a fuller, less reactive life. I need more less.

The Faceless

Anonymous - The Systems Bureaucrat

I use the Depth First Search Method. More of a Diplomatic role, I meta the slippery handshakes, meticulously document the smiling and nodding, verify the facts and rationale their effects. Before the absurdity of the field takes hold, I interpret environmental variables, record timestamps and assay specific medical data. The Heavy Detail. I translate medical patterns, deconstruct bureaucratic inertia and monitor the external phenomena of systems as a foundational record of evidence that cannot be erased. I negotiate the thresholds of reactivity with the polite persistence of a man who comprehends Bernaysian 'If/Then' loops better than their drafters and dutiful conscripts.

Martin - The Professional Maverick

I use the Wing It Method. I am a deeply reluctant, provisionally certified, chronically over-supervised adept in training. Conditioned extensively by repetition, negative reinforcement and error correction with the implicit understanding that much of it is fruitless. Operating well outside any desired specialty envelope, I am routinely exposed to ineffectual low-value testing protocols by circumstance rather than choice and cherish being in the field. I have a blossoming interest in East Central European art and culture, specifically ceramic Pavlovian stylised owl figurines (c. 27,000 BP) - If only they had pens. I have also recently initiated a side hustle. More to come...
